Your Guide to Volunteerism
On this page we have listed several Jewish Family & Children's Service programs and activities, which appear in our web pages. We hope that you will consider volunteering your time to help us provides essential services to more people. The are volunteer opportunities that are available several times a year or on regular basis.
Holiday Food/Gift Program
:
JF&CS provides food for individuals and families in financial need for the Thanksgiving and Passover holiday. You can help by donating food, organizing a food drive with your synagogue, school or office, shopping for food we purchase, sorting donated food, making up food packages or delivering food packages. During Chanukah and Christmas adopt a child or have or a family to provide gifts for the holidays.
Clothing Pantry:
We always need help maintaining the clothing donated to our clothing pantry. Clothing needs to be sorted, hung and the racks replenished on a regular basis. JF&CS gives away clothing, accessories, bedding and towels to anyone who needs it.
Thrift Shop: Volunteers are needed to help unpack, clean and display glassware and home accessories in our thrift shop as well as keep the furniture and shelves dusted and clean. Our stores are located in Long Branch and Asbury Park.
Friendly Visitor:
Be a "Friendly Visitor" for one of our elderly shut-ins. You can visit weekly, bi-weekly or whatever you are comfortable doing. Your visit, conversation, cards or perhaps an outing with the senior will bring much joy to life a lonely person. Make a difference in someone's life.
Mitzvah Projects:
A variety of Mitzvah Projects for Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, confirmations or community service. Adopt-A-Grandparent, organize specialized drives to collect food for the homeless, toiletries, socks, hats, scarves, coats...while learning about the special needs of the population we serve.
Clerical Assist:
Help put together special mailings such as our bi-annual newsletter, Passover, Chanukah and other specialized mailings. Not a big commitment, just help out when needed.
Tribute Committe or JF&CS Board: Join our Tribute Committee and help us organize our annual Tribute Dinner, Silent Auction, Raffle and Ad Journal. Our Tribute Dinner is held in August and is the Agency's most important fund raising event.
Board of Directors:
Speak to our executive director if you are interested in getting more information about joining our Board of Directors. Be part of the dedicated group of volunteers who oversee the finances and help guide the direction of the Agency's Mission.
