First Step Staircase.jpg

First Step is an outpatient treatment program for substance abuse disorders. We offer IOP and OP level groups and individual counseling to individuals from the surrounding community who are interested in achieving an alcohol and drug-free lifestyle. We work with local law enforcement and other agencies to coordinate each person’s care as needed. We support MAT treatment as indicated, which is coordinated with local agencies. Co-occurring counseling is available but psychiatric services are not.

We accept Medicaid and grant funding.
Self-pay and insurance rates can be provided upon request.

Couples/Marital Counseling

Couples Counseling.jpg

Couples today feel increasingly isolated and are expected to manage their lives and families without the community supports that used to be a primary resource in raising children and meeting family needs. Couples in our present culture are less bound by family traditions and are freer than ever before to develop relationships unlike those of the families that they were raised in.

With the aid of a qualified clinician, couples can bring peace, stability and communication back into their relationship. Our licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) provide marital/couples therapy, assisting couples in developing new communication skills, strategies for dealing with conflicts, and discovering new and proven approaches to improve and enhance relations that have lost their directions.

We accept most insurance plans, managed case referrals, and Employee Assistance Plans. Counseling fees are on a sliding scale for those without insurance.

Aging In Place/Geriatric Counseling

The Aging in Place program aims to relieve some of the stress that families experience as they care for their aging parents. We work towards enhancing the lives of our aging clients while still allowing them to be as independent as possible for as long as possible. Families can feel good about the way we provide our services— with compassion, care, and sensitivity.

Once a client (adult child or elderly individual) initiates service from our program, one of our Geriatric Social Workers schedules a home visit with the aging client(s) to do a comprehensive assessment. The assessment includes the following areas:

  • Environmental Conditions and Safety

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL's)

  • Financial Issues

  • Socialization

  • Family History & Current Relationships

  • Cognitive Functioning

  • Emotional State

  • Physical Health

  • Medication Management

  • Nutritional Status

Following the assessment phase, the social worker will create individualized Care Plan recommendations to address any areas of concern. The social worker will contact the aging client and/or the adult child(ren) to review and discuss the assessment and the Care Plan recommendations.

Child & Adolescent Counseling

Child Counseling.jpg

JFCS provides children and adolescents with therapeutic support. Our therapists use cognitive behavioral interventions, family therapy, and coping skills to help our clients.
We counsel our clients with challenges such as depression, anxiety, attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), anger management, and a variety of learning disorders. We also counsel children on coping with divorced or separating parents, peer relationships, school refusal, self-esteem, sexual / gender identification, and behavioral issues.
For younger children, (above age 6), who often are unable to communicate verbally, we offer play therapy. This allows children to express their feelings through art, activities, and toys. Parent education sessions are also offered.
JFCS also helps young adults to navigate their expanding new world, by giving them the guidance that they can use now and as they become adults. Parents are educated and are incorporated into the treatment plan so that they can provide intervention and additional support at home.
